Lahko na evropskih volitvah odloča odnos politikov do podnebnih sprememb?

Leto 2024 je leto evropskih volitev oziroma leto volitev poslancev v Evropski parlament. Poleg tega pa bodo v številnih evropskih državah potekale interne volitve. Evropski svet za zunanje odnose je zato izvedel anketo, s katero je preverjal, katere so tiste teme, ki so za evropske volivce najpomembnejše. Eno od ključnih vprašanj je bilo, v kolikšni meri lahko odnos politikov do podnebnih sprememb vpliva na njihovo (ponovno) izvolitev. Kot se zdi, gre za problematiko, ki je za številne Evropejce zelo pomembna, pri čemer pa se kažejo precej izrazite razlike med mlajšimi in starejšimi generacijami.

Večino volivcev mogoče umestiti v enega izmed petih »taborov«

Anketa je zajela 11 evropskih držav. Poleg 9 članic Evropske unije (Nemčija, Francija, Poljska, Italija, Španija, Danska, Portugalska in Estonija) sta bili vključeni tudi Velika Britanija in Švica. Analiza rezultatov je razkrila, da so za Evropejce pomembne predvsem naslednje teme: svetovna ekonomska kriza, priseljevanje, podnebne spremembe, COVID-19 in vojna v Ukrajini. Večina vprašanih namreč postavlja v ospredje eno od naštetih tem.

Poleg odnosa do priseljevanja najpomembnejši prav odnos do podnebnih sprememb

Na odločitev skoraj 74 milijonov volivcev bo v največji meri vplival prav odnos politikov do podnebnih sprememb. S tem se podnebne spremembe postavljajo ob bok priseljevanju. Kot se zdi, bo o rezultatu volitev prvenstveno odločalo prav stališče, povezano s tema dvema temama.

Podnebne spremembe najbolj skrbijo Dance in Francoze

Kaže torej, da bo odnos do podnebnih sprememb zelo pomemben, vendar to nikakor ne pomeni, da so prebivalci vseh evropskih držav enako zaskrbljeni. Anketa je preverjala, katera kriza je v zadnjem desetletju najbolj spremenila pogled anketirancev na prihodnost. V povprečju je podnebne spremembe izbralo 19 odstotkov vprašanih, pri čemer je bil ta delež med prebivalci nekaterih držav še višji (podnebne spremembe so v zadnjem desetletju najbolj zaznamovale odnos do prihodnosti 29 odstotkov Dancev in 27 odstotkov Francozov), spet v drugih pa precej nižji. Tako je na primer podnebne spremembe kot najbolj »prelomne« navedlo samo 6 odstotkov Estoncev in 11 odstotkov Poljakov.

Mladi precej bolj zaskrbljeni od starejših generacij

Kot omenjeno, so bila zaznana precej izrazita odstopanja med odgovori mlajših in odgovori starejših Evropejcev. Pri tem ni posebno presenetljivo, da so mlajše generacije zaradi podnebnih sprememb precej bolj zaskrbljene od starejših. Tako so podnebne spremembe kot glavni razlog za zaskrbljenost najpogosteje izbrali anketiranci, mlajši od 29 let. V Veliki Britaniji, Franciji, Nemčiji, na Danskem in v Švici so v starostni skupino 18–29 let podnebne spremembe zasedle celo prvo mesto pred vsemi drugimi problematikami.

Precej zaskrbljeni so tudi tisti, stari 30–39 let, in tisti, stari 40–49 let. Kot glavni razlog za zaskrbljenost je v teh dveh starostnih skupinah podnebne spremembe navedlo 20 odstotkov oziroma 22 odstotkov vprašanih. Po drugi strani pa so pri volivcih, starejših od 70 let, podnebne spremembe precej nizko na lestvici prioritet. Na prvo mesto jih je namreč postavilo manj kot 15 odstotkov vprašanih. Poleg starosti in države bivanja je na odgovore vplivala tudi stopnja izobrazbe. Tako so se podnebne spremembe znašle na prvem mestu pri tistih anketirancih z najvišjo stopnjo izobrazbe.

»Podnebni volivci« se običajno odločajo za leve stranke

Na podlagi odnosa volivcev do podnebnih sprememb je mogoče s precejšnjo zanesljivostjo napovedati, h kateremu političnemu polu se nagibajo. Anketiranci, ki so podnebne spremembe na lestvici prioritetnih problematik postavili zelo visoko, so večinoma odgovorili, da bodo volili poslance iz vrst zelenih/levih/socialističnih strank.
